The conservative group that has showcased Gov. Fortuño in the Tea Party hosted a lecture in which statehood for Puerto Rico was criticized as the possible Trojan Horse with which they will “hispanicize” the United States.
White supremacist Peter Brimelow, who maintains the website VDare.com — where a 2,000 word essay was published on its cover against Puerto Rican statehood — was one of the lecturers on Thursday in the Conservative Political Action Conference, or CPAC, where Fortuño has also been a lecturer. A lecture titled “The Failure of Multiculturalism: how the promotion of diversity is weakening the American identity,” was also scheduled, as indicated in the Univision cybernetic website.
Brimelow’s VDARE site was baptized by the United States Legal Center of Southern Poverty as a white supremacist group full of hate. The essay on Puerto Rico titled “¡Viva Puerto Rico Libre! Free Puerto Rico (And The U.S.) Now!” and divulged by Radio Isla 1320, explains why the group opposes statehood for the island.
“If Puerto Rico becomes a state, it will be like a Trojan Horse for the ‘hispanization’ of the United States,” writes the essay’s author, Allan Wall.
Wall also accuses United States’ politicians that favor the political formula of “hispandring” or promoting hispanization.
Ironically, the entity organizing the conference, the American Conservative Union, is led by Cuban-American Al Cárdenas and has as a member Cuban senator Marco Rubio, who was keynote speaker in the conference.
Conquering the Hispanic vote has been a goal and a priority in the agenda of the Republican Party for this year’s elections ever since the difficulties encountered in the 2008 elections. Also, the majority of conservative republicans do not share VDARE’s vision, reason for which many in the conference were asking why Brimelow was invited to participate in the event.
The organizers of the event have washed their hands on the matter, according to the site BuzzFeed. A spokeswoman identified as Kristy Campbell said that they had 150 sponsors and exhibitors, and that the panel in which Brimelow participated was not organized by the Union, and questions should be addressed to the sponsoring entity.
“Events by co-sponsors and affiliates do not necessarily represent the opinions of the American Conservative Union,” she added.
Rubio, who criticized in a speech the passivity and slowness of the conservatives in criticizing rhetoric which are aggressive and intolerable, said nothing this time on the participation of VDARE in the event.
